Infertility, herbal approaches

Most of the modern medical approaches to fertility problems in women usually involve the use of hormone balancing through prescription drugs. These prescriptions are usually synthetic versions of one type of hormone or another that a woman may be low on in her body. Unfortunately, synthetic hormones can cause side effects that may be dangerous. There is recent evidence for instance, that these medications can cause or contribute to the development of breast cancer.

Thankfully there are many natural, herbal hormone balancing solutions available that work quite well. As with any alternative remedy however, the approach taken should always include a whole body health initiative. You can take herbs for added vitamins, minerals and essential nutrition of course, and you can take herbs to help balance your body’s hormone levels. If however, you do not attempt to correct the lifestyle habits that contributed to the health problems to begin with, you may not notice much - if any - health improvements and results.

Herbs which will help with overall nutrition improvement include Alfalfa and Parsley. Both of these herbs are very high in a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin c, and potassium. Kelp is another wonderful herb rich in vitamins and minerals, and it’s particularly useful for helping to regulate the body’s thyroid.

All three of these herbs are particularly important for women with fibroids, endometriosis, or PCOS, especially if one of their common symptoms is heavy menstrual periods. A woman’s body loses 40% more calcium in menstrual blood than normal, so heavy periods can deplete her reserves very quickly.

Black Cohosh is a fairly well known herb for women. This is a natural source of estrogen that doesn’t have the side effects synthetic versions do. As a woman ages, her body produces less estrogen hormone, and this can contribute to various infertility problems. The Black Cohosh often helps supplement the body’s reduced estrogen production.

Horsetail is an herbal diuretic which is often used for kidney and bladder problems. This herb can be quite helpful for women with Fibroids though, because it dissolves fatty tumors inside the body.

Sarsaparilla is an excellent herb to use for general hormonal balancing within the body. It contains both male and female herbs naturally, and it helps stimulate estrogen production in women too.

Red Raspberry is an all around general female health herb that tastes delicious in hot or cold tea form. This herb helps strengthen, tone and heal the entire female reproductive system, including the uterine walls. Red raspberry is also an excellent remedy for heavy menstrual bleeding.
