The Natural Health Benefits of Tea

There is a large and growing body of evidence which supports a number of health related benefits that can be gained just by drinking plain old tea. The two primary types of tea people drink are Black Tea and Green Tea. All tea has multiple health benefits of varying strengths, but Green tea is the one that’s gotten the most attention in recent decades. Black tea too though, has started getting the attention of researchers, and now there is a new and growing fad towards white tea as well.

So much research and evidence has been discovered about Tea in fact, that covering it all in just one article is not possible to do. We can highlight and summarize the biggest points though, and this will get you started on firm footing with understanding just how important tea is to your daily health regimine.

Real tea comes from a plant known as the Camellia sinensis. Some people call this a tea tree instead of a plant, but regardless: It is where Green Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Tea - which is a bit reddish colored and has a flowerly taste - and White Tea all come from.

White tea is very lightly steamed young plant leaves which are believed to retain even more of the healthy antioxidents of the plant. Green tea is also lightly steamed or dried with hot air, so it too retains many of the plant’s natural health properties. Oolong tea is processed with a partial fermentation, and Black tea is fully fermented. Black tea still has many medicinal and health related properties, but the fermentation process changes them to some degree.

Black and Green tea are the two primary sources of intense study by scientists and researchers. And so far the results are astounding.

Green tea for instance, has been shown to outright kill cancer cells. In fact, one researcher says that green tea makes the cancer cells commit suicide. Green tea also helps protect healthy cells from cancerous growths.

Green tea has been shown to reduce LDL, or “bad” cholesterol levels too, plus it works like a natural Cox-2 inhibitor to reduce inflammation and pain such as with rheumatoid arthritis.

If that weren’t enough, green tea has also been shown to increase the body’s metabolism, helping it to use insulin better and burn body fat faster. It also boosts the body’s immune system, which helps people fight common viruses, bacteria, and illnesses.

Black tea also has been shown to boost the body’s immune system and help it ward off illness and disease.
